Not far in the future the ONLY place we will ever see wild animals again is at the movies!
"This is the day Jesus came back to life, so the bar scene is pretty dead." - Molly Laich
I've never thought of this before, but wouldn't the good Lord expect us to eat drink and be merry?
I say the following with utter sincerity: WTF?
Also, I love me some M. Laich sentences.
The error was inserted in the editing process and not by the author. We've corrected it. Thanks for the heads up!
Fact check dude: Michael and Joel didn't go to Hellgate and Michael isn't even from Montana.
this is a great review. cinema is doomed.
and three cheers to whoever came up with "Blech Magic!"
David Nusair is not only a curmudgeon who absolutely hates 90% of the films he reviews, but is an exceedingly (or as he would say, "egregiously") lazy craftsman. He overuses certain expressions he cannot live without, and is too incompetent to replace or just get rid of altogether, as they serve no purpose at all. Expressions such as: egregiously, infuses the proceedings, there's little doubt, interminable, admittedly, eye-rolling, countless, etc. etc. I challenge anyone to find a single review by Mr. Nusair that does not feature several of these very expressions... and his reviews are short! I will never understand why he refuses to improve his writing, to widen his use of the English language, let alone the scope of his criticism.
David Nusair is trying to make a name for himself by trashing movies he does not understand. This is an old trick used by maniacs with complexes and great ambition. He is prolific and obsessed with himself and his favorite film is "Up"....You can't really argues with someone who does not use arguments.
Wow, that was the worst movie review I've ever read. Are you a fourth grade student? because your writing proficiency would suggest that.
Molly Laich; go back to Alabama, or wherever you're from, and leave writing to anyone other than you. . .
"But to say "time has been kind" to the film—to mention time at all—is cruel, since it still takes an eternity for Cimino to tell such a thin story. It's wonderful and flawed, audacious and tedious."
ha. that is killer. thanks for telling me this weird story about a movie I knew little about!
I haven't revealed anything that isn't also given away in the film's trailer. This is my general rule of thumb re: spoilers.
I hope this explanation addresses your "comment" and you're not turned off from seeing the film. The real pleasure isn't so much in what happens, but how.
Is this "review" supposed to function as a summary for people who don't plan on seeing the movie? Because that's pretty much what it does.
I think Anderson falls short of auteur status. he has a significant body of work and a distinct style, but he lacks the third criteria which is that every film should be distinct from one another. filmmakers like scorsese, the coen brothers, cassavetes and kubrick are better examples of auteur. (Consider the difference between "the big lebowski" and "no country for old men." clearly drafted by the same competent hand, but entirely different moods and genres.) but this is open to debate and I could just be being a little stingy with old definitions. I had a whole section about this debate in an earlier draft of this review, but I thought average readers would find a pedantic departure into the true definition of "auteur" to be... you know. boring.
That's precisely what I thought. He seems to have matured as an auteur. Combined with the genius casting, this reinvigorates his tropes. The moon is full, here.
I would hope this film gets out where everyone can see it. It's a good time before the elections this fall to out those over reaching right wing teatards. I can only hope the voters in this state will send a resounding message to those who would oppose the will of the people. This debate has gone beyond crazy. Innocent peoples lives are being ruined and sick people are suffering because of the intolerance of a few narrow minded idiots. Please send a message to our corporate pocket padding legislators. Let them know that when we vote for something we expect them to hold up their end of the deal. Tell them we are tired of being sold down the road to the highest bidder.
I really like what you've done here, conversing with another critic.
It sounds like a re-make of "When Worlds Collide" - a classic 1950's sci-fi film. There are even shots in that earlier film much like the picture, above. Check it out.
Excuse me, not paragraph number one precisely, but a general tone to your comments. I am no defender of Dominque Strauss-Kahn at all. I am a defender of Catherine Deneuve's character, where turn-about is fair play.
Re: “Hard day's night”
I hope this band finds a bigger audience and large financial reward.
