After hearing reports of others skiing throughout the Thanksgiving break, I had to muster out and enjoy some fresh snow myself.
We headed to the pass and took three laps on various beargrass lanes. The snow was anywhere from one to two feet in depth and north faces were holding high quality surface conditions. It was an enjoyable first outing. Digging to the ground entailed excavating through increasing density snow to a crust with well consolidated snow below that to the ground. On wind exposed and sunny slopes the skiing is not happening yet. With careful assessment and choice some really good early season powder skiing can be had now in the Bitterroots.
