Early Morning Kootenai Canyon Climbing

Posted By on Sun, Jul 29, 2012 at 7:10 PM

After weeks off from traditional and sport climbing, Jenny and beat the heat and headed to Kootenai Canyon for some cragging soon after sunrise.

Jenny climbs through the crux at Ironmonger 5.8

We had the first buttress all to ourselves and it was shady and pleasant until about 11:30 a.m. We cranked a few routes including, Ironmonger 5.8 a classic trad route, Lookout, a pleasant 5.10b, and finally Moses, 5.10+. All these routes are easily accessible in the same general location on the first buttress. Kootenai Canyon continues to deliver the easiest access to quality granite climbing in the Missoula area. If you go early or climb on the south side of the creek it is still a great outing even in the heat of the summer.
