Seems that this ridge ride is one of my favorite mountain bike rides anywhere. With thousands of feet of climbing, a superb ridge to follow thereafter, and numerous linkups and loop possibilities, the only thing keeping me from riding here all day is fitness and the snowdrifts above 7,500.'
A couple weeks ago I rode the ridge trail during a warm afternoon and quickly heat loaded. Taking my cue from that day, I started this trip at 0707 and enjoyed cool climbing all morning. By the time I reached the ridge the temperature was moderate and the sun was blazing making the cruise to the Twogood ridge really nice. The descent of this ridge was good, the trail only a tad torn up by the motorbikes. With fields of lupine, balsamroot and paintbrush and blended into a sea of green the upper elk meadows were a treat to ride through. With little blowdown and adequate fitness I finished the 25 mile loop in under five hours, encountering only one other bike group and no others. With three further ridge to keep pushing out, fitness improving and the snow melting, I hope to extend the ride further every time.
