Biz buzz

Small businesses generate 79 percent of the net new jobs in America. But when it comes to health care, they get the short end of the stick. Those businesses who can afford to offer coverage pay 18 percent more than larger businesses for the same coverage. Not only are prices constantly going up, they're completely unpredictable. The cost of coverage skyrockets whenever an employee comes down with an expensive illness like cancer or has a serious car accident. President Obama's health care plan would offer small businesses a choice of plans through a national or regional purchasing pool, without today's unpredictable prices. And he'd offer substantial tax credits to help small businesses to offer coverage who can't afford it today. Our state's small businesses can't wait any longer for health reform. It's time that Congress act.
