We're starting the celebration early.
What you’re drinking: Bushmills Irish Whiskey and green beer. Harp Lager with just a dash of food coloring serves as an ideal green beer, explains Sean Kelly’s bartender Darci Matovich. “It’s like a Bud Light, if you will, but way better,” she says, before adding that bartenders are flexible. “Pretty much, we’ll make any beer green.”
Who you’re drinking with: All kinds of people show up to Missoula’s Irish pub on the festive Irish holiday. Sean Kelly’s staffer Chelsi Rife says if there’s any one distinction with the crowd, it’s St. Patrick’s Day attire. “It’s just like a sea of green,” she says.
What you’re eating: On Sat. March 15, two days before the official holiday, Sean Kelly’s is rolling out a special menu featuring traditional Irish fare, including pork stew, pasties and corned beef and cabbage. On the holiday itself, March 17, the public house offers a $15 all-you-can-eat buffet featuring similar items well suited to soaking up the green beer.
What you’re doing: On March 15, dancing to live music from Shakewell, Cootehill and Ted Ness & the Rusty Nails. On March 17, the Circle of Friends and the Hasslers take to the stage. The Celtic Irish Pipe Band will also perform.
St. Patrick’s Day specials: Pints of Guinness and Harp Lager run $4, whether they’re green or not. (They usually cost $5.25). A shot of Bushmills will be $3, rather than the traditional $4.
How to find it: Sean Kelly’s is located at 130 West Pine Street.
