A lot of this summer's weather has flat-out stunk. But if you can't wear your swimming trunks, you may as well pull back out your skis — and this week offers a golden opportunity to put them to use.
The second annual Beartooth Summer Session starts tomorrow with registration and check-in. The four-day event features lift accessed skiing at Red Lodge Summer Ski Camp, guided backcountry skiing with Beartooth Mountain Guides, a big mountain slopestyle competition, and a free demo from ON3P Ski Company.
Three days of lift tickets and four nights lodging runs $270, and other packages are available.
For those of you who know about the Red Lodge Summer Ski and Snowboard Camps, summer skiing is no new thing. There's daily lift service available for $45, and plenty of backcountry opportunities. The weather's been a bit whacky this summer, but often to the hill's benefit.
"We had that warm weather in early May, then 3 and a half feet of snow over Memorial Day weekend," says Kurt Hallock, the camp's owner. "It's been all over the place, but we're not in too bad a shape ... There are people up on the mountain right now."
