The Montana Board of Regents today voted in favor of offering Royce Engstrom the job as The University of Montana's next president.
According to the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education, all seven voting regents favored authorizing Commissioner Sheila Stearns to enter into an employment contract with Engstrom, who for the past three years has acted as UM's Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. If all goes as planned, Engstrom will take over Oct. 15.
The news doesn't come as much of a surprise, as Engstrom has during his tenure at UM earned a solid reputation for being a good communicator and an effective manager who inspires trust among students, faculty and staff.
UM's Presidential Search Advisory Committee named two other finalists for the position last month, but one took a position at another university and the other dropped out of the hiring process before any finalists were announced.
