Vampire Weekend played the Badlander in July 2007 for a cover charge of $3.
Afterward, the band toured with the Shins and its first single, "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa," hit number 67 on Rolling Stone's 100 Best Songs of the year.
By January 2008, the band had just released its debut album and was set to play the Badlander again in March when Spin declared them the Best New Band of the Year. The album hit high on UK and US charts and another sold-out show at the Badlander rocked fans just weeks after an appearance on "Saturday Night Live."
Vampire Weekend just announced a return to Missoula on Tuesday, Mar. 16, this time to the Wilma Theatre—an indication of just how big the band has become. The quartet's on tour to promote its sophomore album, Contra, which goes on sale next Tuesday. Tickets for the Wilma show go on sale Friday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m at Rockin’ Rudys, The Source in the UC, and online at www.inticketing.com for $23.
The show is the biggest ever put on by Missoula's college radio, KBGA 89.9 FM.
