Barkus and his white Corvette

Posted by Skylar Browning on Tue, Sep 1, 2009 at 3:31 PM

Still no word from state Sen. Greg Barkus or his attorney regarding the Kalispell Republican's version of last Thursday's boat crash. Barkus reportedly was driving the speed boat when it crashed along the rocks near Wayfarers State Park on Flathead Lake, injuring Rep. Denny Rehberg, Barkus, Barkus' wife and two Rehberg staffers.

This morning's daily reports included information about Barkus' state driving record, which the Indy has received a copy of. In addition to two speeding tickets since 2000, Barkus' record also included a charge for reckless driving in 2004.

We've since learned, through a report with Lake County Justice Court obtained by Indy staff reporter Jessica Mayrer, that Barkus was originally charged with DUI. He was operating a 2000 white Corvette with vanity plates reading "DREAM IT." Barkus was stopped going 84 mph in a 65-mph zone and found to be under the influence.

He subsequently pleaded not guilty and was convicted of reckless driving, a misdemeanor.

According to the AP, Flathead County Sheriff Mike Meehan said he would get a subpoena to determine Barkus' blood alcohol content at the time of the accident.

i have several times attempted to comment on the 'missoulian' but my comments have been vaporized? why is that?
all i asked was why would 'officials' tell innocent bystanders [witnesses] to 'keep their mouths shut', although it was in the context of a law officer telling citizens to violate their rights as american citizens.
then comes the question as to why, in the normal process of an investigation, certain facts are not disclosed in legal protocol; to wit; federal mandates as to what barney fife must abide by, we must disclose b.a.c's, and other pertinent FACTS,. it seems the big sky whoozits have their heads and tongues, in the wrong posture.
the Associated Press will soon become their erstwhile 'rolfers', and the truth will come spitting out, no matter how disgusting or onerous, and how unwilling the two perps would have it, it will come

I am pretty sure law enforcement agencies seldom charge or even interview people who are in Intensive Care Units in a hospital. Most patients are on some sort of pain medication so anything they would say would be inadmissable. No one is happy but we must be patient.
